RFU Counties 2 Herts/Middlesex
Royston RFC 22 - 48 Hendon RFC
The win credits Hendon with 5 points to hold their mid place in the League.
Rossa Dooley opened up the Hendon scoreboard after just three minutes, collecting a loose pass mid field to break through the Royston defence to touch down with Cian Hynes adding the conversion 0-7.
Hendon added a further score from a forward’s maul with scrum half Rich Roberts feeding Harvey Brown on the wing to score out wide after 11 minutes of play 0-12.
Concentration then lapsed giving Royston some easy scores from Hendon defensive errors, allowing the home team to score over the next 15 minutes two tries and a penalty to go into the lead 17-12.
Hendon change of play soon saw them retake the lead with a try by Josh Lowes converted by Hynes from a backline move. Then on 35 minutes winger Mohamed Faiz set up the next attack into Royston territory with front row forward Larry Moore taking the ball to the Royston 5 metre zone for the ball to be spread wide and Chris Kiyingi on the opposite wing scoring in the corner 17-24.
Robbie Burrell then had a great run through mid-field just before the interval but Royston’s defence stood firm to stop a further score.
Straight into the second half, Burrell was rewarded with the first score in the corner, finished by Hynes 17-31. Minutes later, with a following wind, it was winger Brown to run from defence to set up Hynes to score and then converting his own try 17-38.
To Royston’s credit, their forwards rallied keeping Hendon pinned to their goal-line before their eventual score out wide 22-36 after 20 minutes. Into the last quarter saw Hendon’s captain Nick Andrew’s break from defence to carry up-field, Kiyingi again leading the next Hendon attack with J T Moncher scoring to go 22- 41 ahead.
Finally, in the closing minutes Hendon pushed Royston off their set scrum with Dooley making another break giving Kiyingi the scoring pass for Faiz to convert making the final score 22 points to 48.
This Saturday Hendon are home to unbeaten league leaders Ealing.
