Hendon RFC
Old Haberdashers RFC

With many of the established 1st XV players at a wedding, Hendon put out a mixed side giving many of the squad an opportunity to shine and push for a place in next weeks opener.

Luke Pollard was skipper for the day and along with Nick Andrews help set a platform with an excellent scrummaging display. The forwards opened the scoring with Rossa Dooley going over from close range . Junior Farao followed shortly after with a powerful run through the defence. Half backs Ross Williams and debutant Oli May moved the ball at every opportunity allowing Chris Kiyingi and Jephte Moncher to cross the line to finish free flowing moves. Perhaps the best score came from debutant Aidan McCarthy, who finished off a try involving 9 players that started deep in Hendon's half.

The second half saw Hendon dominate for the first 30 minutes. Man of the Match Ronan Jones and Rossa Dooleys powerful running created space and tries were added by James Cheshire and Moncher. The lineout work was impressive, giving an excellent platform and after quick ruck ball Pollard's pace was too much for the tiring defence. Watterson finished off the next try and had a good day with the boot kicking 7 from 11 from difficult positions . Further tries by Farao and Dooley before an interception allowed Haberdashers to get on the board .

Director of Rugby Phil Smith was pleased with the performance "despite so many changes the performance was excellent and the depth of the squad is a lot better this year."

Hendon open their league account against Barnet at home next week 3pm kick off, with the 2nd XV facing Cuffley on the adjacent pitch.
