The Bank, playing down the slope in the first half, put the Hendon defence to the test from kick off until possession was won and an immediate backline move with centre Harry Charles taking the pass on the Bank 10 metre line to score in the corner 5-0 after 5 mins. The Bank attack then held Hendon in their own territory for the next 20 mins, but Hendon’s defence held strong until a carry from Rossa Dooley, stopped short with Junior Farao pushing forward to Toby Ikwueke to score out wide, 10-0. From the restart, Hendon’s No8, Donal O’Sullivan set up Charles in support to Will Theaker to break for the line with Captain Cian Hynes scoring and converting to push Hendon into a 17 pts to nil lead. The Home side now looked in command with Rob Casey making the next break on the ½ hour setting up another backline move with Charles scoring his 2nd try converted by Hynes 24-0. The last score of the period belonged to the Bank, as they intercepted another attacking Hendon backline move to score an unopposed try to finish at 24-7.
Into the 2nd half, it took the home outfit 20 mins to get the next score as the Bank defence held firm until O’Sullivan picked up from a Hendon scrum to run through the defence to score 29-7. With time running out and to their credit Bank tried to run the ball from their own half but Hynes intercepted a long pass to score again and converted 36-7. Into the closing minutes and Bank came into the Hendon 22 with repeated attempts to score until a final maul in the corner gave them their 2nd try to finish the match at 36-12.
This Saturday, Hendon have a bye date in the League and will be on duty again on Saturday 8th February when they travel to Canvey Island in Essex for the Regional Semi-Final of the National Junior Vase Competition.
