Hendon 21 - 5 Old Streetonians 3s
Hendon Rugby kick off 2025 on a positive note
Without a Merit league fixture, Hendon took on City Club Old Streetonians in their first post-Christmas match before the League recommences on Saturday, February 1st, at home to Watford.
Hendon was up the slope in the 1st period and soon put pressure on the visitors with Captain Nick Andrews and his forwards leading; after 10 mins scrum-half Sam Brown to No.12 Charlie Rodgers broke two tackles to score and converted his own try 7-0. Mid-field play continued until Rodgers put a long penalty kick into touch 15 metres from the Old Street try line; from the Line Out, Tom Sanders collected to set up a maul to the line with back-row Helio Vicente touching down to score with Rodgers converting 14-0 for the ½ time turnaround.
Into the 2nd period and from the kick-off an O Street defender conceded a scrum to Hendon whose front row of Kan Cheng, Will Wheeler and Andrews dominated with a push to the line as Brown went blind to put a pass to Co-Captain Michael
Oyekanmi will score with Rodgers, finishing with a long conversion of 21-0. All looked good for the home outfit but a lapse in concentration by Hendon allowed the visitors to break through the defensive line to score in the corner 21-5.
With injuries to both Teams reducing Hendon to 13 and O Street to 14 after 25 mins, the Referee by agreement with both Captains blew an early whistle for this friendly to continue in the Bar.
